Will Non-Subsidised Fuel Prices Rise on 1 October? ESDM: Following Market Prices
The Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Laode Sulaeman, has addressed the potential for non-subsidised fuel price adjustments effective from 1 October 2026.
As is common in Indonesia, fuel price adjustments are typically implemented at the beginning of the month. Laode stated that the prices for non-subsidised fuels, such as RON 92 or Pertamax Cs, are directed by market prices. “It was announced yesterday by the Vice Minister (ESDM Vice Minister Yuliot Tanjung) that all non-subsidised fuels will follow market prices,” Laode explained at the Ministry of ESDM office on Wednesday (30/09/2026).
According to Refinitiv, global oil prices rose for the second consecutive day on Tuesday (29/09/2026), following concerns regarding supply disruptions caused by the US-Iran conflict. On Tuesday at 10:39 WIB, Brent crude rose 1.5% to US$106.9 per barrel, while WTI crude strengthened 1.4% to US$93.91 per barrel.
In Tuesday’s trading (28/09/2026), Brent crude prices had increased by 0.9% to US$105.28 per troy ounce, while WTI prices climbed 0.2% to US$92.6 per barrel.
Regarding the rise in global oil prices, Laode noted a tendency for non-subsidised fuel prices to follow market movements. “It follows the market price. However, subsidised fuels will not follow the market. Specifically, the subsidies apply to Solar, Pertalite, and kerosene,” Laode emphasised.
