Eid al-Fitr 2026 falls on 1 Syawal 1447 H. The celebration of Eid al-Fitr 2026 occurs next week.

The government will determine the date of Eid al-Fitr 2026 through an isbat session. The isbat session to determine 1 Syawal 1447 H will be held on Thursday, 19 March 2026, coinciding with 29 Ramadan 1447 H, at the H.M. Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs headquarters, Jakarta.

When is Government Eid al-Fitr 2026?

The exact date of government Eid al-Fitr 2026 will only be known after the announcement of the isbat session to determine 1 Syawal 1447 H. The isbat session to establish when Eid al-Fitr 2026 or 1 Syawal 1447 H will be held next week on 19 March 2026.

However, the government, through a joint decree from three ministers concerning National Holidays and Joint Leave 2026 and the Indonesian Hijriah Calendar 2026 published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, predicts Eid al-Fitr 2026 will fall on 21 March 2026.

Muhammadiyah Eid al-Fitr 2026: 20 March

According to Muhammadiyah Statement Number 2/MLM/1.0/E/2025 and Muhammadiyah’s Unified Global Hijriah Calendar (KHGT), 1 Syawal 1447 H (Eid al-Fitr) falls on Friday, 20 March 2026. Muhammadiyah has set Eid al-Fitr 2026 on Friday (20/3/2026).

Will Government and Muhammadiyah Eid al-Fitr 2026 Be Different?

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs website, regarding some members of the public who have already stated that the beginning of Syawal 1447 H falls on 20 March 2026, the Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Islamic Law Development at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Arsad Hidayat, stated that differences in methodology in determining the beginning of the Hijriah month are part of a long-standing dynamic in Islamic scholarly practice.

The government respects the methods used by various Islamic community organisations in establishing the worship calendar. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Religious Affairs urges the public to await the results of the isbat session.

“The government invites the public to await the decision of the isbat session as a common reference in determining the beginning of Syawal,” said Arsad.

“If there are differences, prioritise mutual respect and maintain unity. This is important in responding to the dynamics of determining the festival date,” he said.

Therefore, whether government and Muhammadiyah Eid al-Fitr 2026 will differ depends on the results of the isbat session on 19 March 2026.
