Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has yet to provide certainty regarding the continuation of electric motorcycle incentives this year. Amid hopes from industry players and consumers, discussions on the policy are still ongoing at the internal government level.

The Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), Setia Diarta, revealed that the discussion on incentives remains part of the national agenda that has not yet been finalised.

“Regarding the electric motorcycle incentives, they are still in the discussion stage. And the discussion stage, which perhaps I can say to my media friends, is indeed part of the national agenda but has not yet been fully discussed. So, to avoid disrupting sales later, so that sales can continue,” he stated, quoted on Thursday (23/4/2026).

On the other hand, the government is also beginning to prepare various approaches to encourage the electric vehicle ecosystem, including through cross-energy task force coordination.

“Well, its position is that in several energy task forces, they have already conveyed this because there will be a transformation of vehicles… from ICE to electric. Indeed, there are discussions underway but not yet at the decision-making stage,” he said.

This uncertainty leaves market players still awaiting clear policy direction. The government has asked that circulating information be handled cautiously to avoid disrupting the ongoing vehicle sales dynamics.

“Hopefully it develops, but please filter it so as not to disrupt the current market. So, with permission,” he said.

Furthermore, Setia emphasised that various scenarios have been prepared, both for conversion programmes and incentives for new electric motorcycles. However, implementation details cannot yet be disclosed.

“So, if the position is indeed in the discussion stage for electric motorcycles and no decision has been made. The scenarios have been developed; later the scenarios will be both in ESDM for conversion, there is conversion, as mentioned by the Task Force earlier, and also for new motorcycles. But if asked about the amount and so on, wait first,” he stated.

With this situation, the certainty of electric motorcycle incentives for 2026 remains a question mark. The market now awaits whether the government will once again roll out stimuli or opt for a new scheme to drive the domestic electric vehicle transition.
