Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has spoken out regarding the continuation of incentives for electric vehicles, both electric cars and electric motorcycles.

Purbaya revealed that the extension of these incentives is still in the discussion phase with the Ministry of Industry.

“I will still discuss it with the Minister of Industry. Mr Minister of Industry, we will discuss it, but we think there will be incentives for new electric motorcycles,” Purbaya stated when met by reporters at the Attorney General’s Office in South Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026).

Furthermore, Purbaya explained that the discussion on electric vehicle incentives has also been addressed with industry players, including the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).

“(Gaikindo) invited us for a car exhibition, but also for discussions on, for example, if incentives are needed, what kind of incentives for electric cars and so on. This discussion is not yet finished; I will meet with them again later,” he said.

As is known, previously, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that proposals regarding automotive incentives have been submitted to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

He also assured that the proposed stimulus scheme this time is no longer general, but far more detailed compared to the Covid-19 pandemic period.

“Regarding automotive, the incentive stimulus proposals that we have sent to Mr Finance Minister. There is a slight spill, there are differences. Here we will impose it; what we propose is more detailed, more detailed compared to the period when we faced Covid previously, from segments, from technology, from the TKDN side, TKDN weight, and so on, we make it more detailed,” Agus said on Saturday (3/1/2026).

Specifically for electric vehicles, Agus emphasised that the government’s focus is to encourage first-time buyers so that the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) becomes increasingly widespread.

“If we talk about electric cars, first buyers are our priority. The numbers can be spilled gradually,” he explained.
