Wild Boar Shot Dead After Causing a Stir by Entering a Mosque in Blora
A wild boar was spotted entering the An Nur Grand Mosque in Selogender hamlet, Gempol village, Jati district, Blora regency, Central Java. Residents eventually shot the animal dead.
“I was at home when I suddenly heard a bang. I went outside, thinking it was my child. Then a neighbour said a wild boar had entered the mosque,” local resident Kiswanto told reporters at the mosque in Selogender hamlet, as reported by detikJateng on Thursday (22 October 2026).
The incident happened at around 2pm on Wednesday (21 October). The boar was believed to have come from woodland north of the village. Before running towards the mosque, it struck the mosque gate, knocking it down.
Kiswanto went to the mosque and found the boar in the imam’s area. Residents gathered outside the gate, concerned about the presence of the large wild animal.
“The boar came from the east, ran west and hit the gate. It knocked the gate down. Someone passing by heard a noise and, on checking, found a wild boar,” he said.
According to Kiswanto, residents decided to seek help from someone who owned a rifle normally used for hunting. They took this step because the boar, estimated to weigh around 90 kilograms, was considered too large to catch by hand.
“The problem was that the boar was big — around 90 kilograms. It wasn’t manageable to catch it by hand, so they decided to use a rifle,” he said.
The boar was shot once in the head from a distance of about 20 metres. It fell immediately and died.
“After it was shot, the boar died straight away. The others then carried it outside,” he added.
Residents removed the boar’s carcass from the mosque. Mosque caretakers cleaned up the blood that had spilled inside.
Kiswanto suspected the boar had entered the settlement in search of food or water. He said wild boars were still found in the area, although there were fewer than in the past.
“What is clear is that the boar was looking for food and water and wandered into the village. I know it came from the forest north of the village,” he said.
