Wild Boar Hunting Dogs Kill 9-Year-Old Boy in Bogor
A horrific incident has struck a nine-year-old boy, identified by the initials MAS, in Jasinga, Bogor Regency. The victim died after being attacked by wild boar hunting dogs while he was fishing.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 7 June 2026. The victim was found by local residents lying face down on the grass. Viral video footage shows the victim with injuries to his head, after which he was evacuated by police and military personnel using a patrol vehicle.
The Deputy Regent of Bogor, Ade Ruhandi, also known as Jaro Ade, expressed his condolences, stating that the loss is a shared grief for the community. He has called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victim’s family and to ensure no party evades responsibility for this tragedy.
Following an intensive investigation, the Bogor District Police have named the owner of the stray dogs as a suspect. The Jasinga Police Chief, AKP Agus Hidayat, stated that the incident happened around 11:30 WIB on Sunday. The victim was fishing with a friend when the attack occurred; notably, the friend survived the encounter.
According to Iptu Dwi Wiyanto of the Bogor Police Criminal Investigation Unit, a group of hunters was conducting a wild boar hunt using dogs in the area at the time. The investigation revealed that several dogs chased the two children who happened to be in the forest area for fishing.
The police have detained the dog owner, identified by the initial Y, a resident of Jakarta. The owner has reportedly admitted that his dogs were responsible for the fatal attack. Police have also detained approximately 43 hunters involved in the activity.
In addition to the criminal investigation, Bogor Police have secured hundreds of hunting dogs to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases. Bogor Police Chief AKBP Wikha Ardilestanto reported that 125 animals were involved in the operation, with 109 dogs currently being held alive, 4 found dead, and 12 still missing. In collaboration with the Bogor Regency Fisheries and Livestock Service (Disnakan), the police are conducting rabies testing and strict isolation of the 109 dogs to monitor for any signs of the virus.
The legal status of the case has been elevated to a full investigation. AKP Silfi Adi Putri, Head of the PPA/PPO Unit at Bogor Police, confirmed that the suspect, Y, has been charged after investigators found traces of the victim’s blood in the dog’s mouth. The suspect faces charges under the New Criminal Code (UU No. 1/2023) for negligence, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years or significant fines.
