WIKA, via WIKON and GESITS, Boosts National Electric Motorcycle Ecosystem
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the National Electric Motorcycle Ecosystem (Molinas) in Cikarang, West Java, on Thursday, marking a significant step in strengthening the domestic electric vehicle industry through collaboration among various industrial players. The development of Molinas is part of efforts to bolster Indonesia’s industrial and economic independence. Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, CEO of the Danantara Indonesia Investment Management Agency (BPI), described Molinas as a strategic move that enhances synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises, and national companies to increase the role of domestic industry and promote economic self-reliance.
In line with this ecosystem strengthening, state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA), through its subsidiary PT Wijaya Karya Industri dan Konstruksi (WIKON), is participating in the development of national electric vehicles. WIKON holds a 48.95 per cent stake in PT Gesits Motor Nusantara (GMN), the company that manufactures and assembles the GESITS electric motorcycle. As a homegrown electric vehicle product, GESITS has experience in product development, manufacturing and assembly, supply chain strengthening, domestic component usage, and after-sales service. These capabilities position GESITS to contribute to the Molinas ecosystem.
The strengthening of the electric vehicle industry through Molinas also supports the fifth goal of the government’s Asta Cita vision, which focuses on continuing downstreaming and industrialisation to increase domestic value addition. WIKA Corporate Secretary Ngatemin stated that the company’s involvement through WIKON and GMN is part of its commitment to national industrial development. He noted that WIKA sees the development of national electric vehicles not only as a business opportunity but also as a contribution to strengthening the domestic industry. The collaboration is expected to build a more competitive, independent, and sustainable electric vehicle ecosystem, opening opportunities to enhance national industrial capacity, technology, manufacturing, and the domestic supply chain. WIKA remains committed to playing a role in strengthening the domestic industry, encouraging innovation, and supporting the realisation of environmentally friendly and sustainable mobility.
