PT Wijaya Karya Beton Tbk (WIKA Beton) has expressed its readiness to become a key partner in the development of railway projects in Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region. This was conveyed to regional industry players at the 3rd Edition Thailand Rail 2026 event in Bangkok on 30 March 2026.

In a conference session titled Lessons Learned from Strategic Alliance Schemes in the Metro Manila Subway Project and Jakarta MRT Project Phase 2, WIKA Beton presented experiences from strategic alliances in two major regional projects: the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) in the Philippines and MRT Jakarta Phase II CP205 in Indonesia.

WIKA Beton also recounted its railway business milestones over the past decade, from the LRT Jakarta Phase 1A project and LRT Jakarta Phase 1B to the MRT Jakarta CP205 Railway Systems contract, while reaffirming its vision to become a sustainable concrete solutions company focused on strategic partnerships and sustainable practices.

Represented by Yomil Ravianda, Regional Manager for Overseas, Jakarta Greater Area and Railway Systems, WIKA Beton emphasised that railway project failures often occur at interface points where sub-systems connect and integrate, rather than solely due to the quality of technology or individual infrastructure.

Furthermore, he explained that executing rail projects requires a spectrum of cross-disciplinary expertise that no single organisation can possess alone, making strategic alliances the primary driver of success in both planning and implementation phases. Through examples from MMSP and MRT Jakarta CP205, Yomil outlined how WIKA Beton prioritises intellectual capital in project management expertise, engineering, and precast concrete manufacturing via profit-sharing models and work scope divisions, rather than relying on full equity-based expansions.

Several conference participants questioned the connection between WIKA Beton and Danantara Indonesia, as well as their potential roles as catalysts for investors interested in urban railway projects in Indonesia and the region. In response, Yomil explained that WIKA Beton and Danantara serve as bridges between technical strengths in engineering and the need for sustainable investment scheme development for global investors.

Further, Yomil affirmed that these collaboration opportunities can translate into concrete business partnerships for urban rail line developments in Indonesia and globally, with WIKA Beton handling engineering, systems management, and construction aspects. Meanwhile, Danantara acts as a catalyst for investment structures and consolidating global investor interests.

Through its presence at Thailand Rail 2026, WIKA Beton not only presented case studies and lessons from the Metro Manila Subway and Jakarta MRT but also signalled that Indonesia is preparing a pipeline of urban railway projects demanding long spans, system integration, and mature alliance schemes.

WIKA Beton hopes that the discussions in Bangkok will serve as an entry point for new collaborations with international investors and partners in upcoming railway projects in Indonesia and the ASEAN region.
