WIKA Accelerates Karian–Serpong Water Conveyance System Package 3 Project, Progress Reaches 24.67 Per Cent
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) is accelerating the construction of the Karian Dam–Serpong Water Conveyance System (KSCS) Package 3, which has currently reached a progress rate of 24.67 per cent.
The project is targeted for completion by 3 August 202 Aluminium 27, according to WIKA Corporate Secretary Ngatemin in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Ngatemin stated that the KSKS Package 3 project is part of the national strategic infrastructure development aimed at strengthening the Karian–Serpong raw water transmission system. This raw water infrastructure development aligns with the national development direction under ‘Astacita’, specifically through water security and infrastructure development to support equitable growth.
Once completed, KSCS Package 3 will become a vital component of the Karian–Serpong raw water transmission system, supporting increased reliability in water distribution to service areas. This infrastructure supports the development of the raw water transmission system from the Karian Dam to the Serpong Water Treatment Plant and four other branch treatment plants, to provide high-quality clean water that meets the Indonesian Government’s water quality standards.
“The presence of this infrastructure helps address the increasing demand for drinking water due to the rapid growth of cities in the eastern Banten and Jakarta regions, while simultaneously reducing groundwater extraction and the use of deep wells, which are discouraged due to harmful environmental impacts,” said Ngatemin.
In the KSCS Package 3 project, WIKA is handling several key scopes of work, including preparation work, soil work, pipe procurement and installation, crossing pipe work, structural work, road and drainage work, miscellaneous work, as well as mechanical, electrical, instrumentation procurement, and installation accessories pipe work. All these scopes of work support the construction of the raw water transmission system as part of the Karian–Serpong Project.
Several project preparation tasks have been completed in accordance with the construction implementation stages, including mobilisation, preliminary works, and material procurement as required by the project. Currently, the work is focused on the pipe installation process, including pipe stringing, pipe joint fit-up, welding, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), hydrotesting on pipe segments that have met testing requirements, and inspection road works.
In its implementation, WIKA involves approximately 90 workers with the consistent application of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) aspects, ranging from safety morning talks (SMT) and routine toolbox meetings, safety induction for all personnel, the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the type of work, the implementation of permits to work for high-risk tasks, to periodic safety inspections and supervision of procedural compliance.
“The progress of the KSCS Package 3 implementation, which is currently running ahead of schedule, demonstrates WIKA’s consistency in maintaining quality, safety, and timely project execution. We continue to strengthen coordination with all stakeholders, including the land acquisition process, so that this strategic project can be completed according to target and provide optimal benefits to the community,” explained Ngatemin.
In terms of innovation, WIKA is implementing a method to reuse hydrotest water in the execution of KSCS Package 3. Water that has been used for pressure testing on one pipe segment is not immediately discarded but is instead diverted and reused for hydrotesting the next segment after meeting operational requirements. This method supports water use efficiency during the construction process, reduces the need for new water intake, and minimises the volume of water discharged into the environment without compromising the quality and reliability of the hydrotest execution.
KSCS Package 3 complements WIKA’s portfolio in water infrastructure, which also includes the Semanan Distribution Centre (DC) Reservoir project for the Karian–Serpong Regional Water Supply System (SPAM) and several other water transmission and treatment projects across various regions in Indonesia. Through this portfolio, WIKA plays an active role in supporting the national water security programme while implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles at every stage of project execution.
