Wijaya Karya Beton (WTON) Joins Metro Manila Subway Project
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The precast concrete issuer, PT Wijaya Karya Beton Tbk (WTON), continues to expand its international presence through participation in the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) in the Philippines.
This involvement represents a key milestone in the company’s global expansion journey, while also affirming the contribution of Indonesia’s manufacturing industry to modern infrastructure development in the Asian region.
WIKA Beton’s President Director, Kuntjara, stated that the company’s participation in the project is a strategic step to strengthen the position of Indonesia’s manufacturing industry in the global infrastructure supply chain.
In this project, WIKA Beton is participating through its subsidiary, PT Wijaya Karya Komponen Beton (WIKA Kobe), which will supply key components for the railway track system.
The Metro Manila Subway project itself is supported by financing from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and is being implemented by Colas Rail as the trackwork contractor.
The collaboration officially began with a kick-off meeting between WIKA Kobe and Colas Rail at the Concrete Product Factory (PPB) in Majalengka, West Java, which discussed the technical scope and production plans for supplying precast concrete railway sleepers (PC sleepers) for contract package CP106.
These concrete railway sleepers will be used for the needs of the depot as well as the main line in the Metro Manila Subway system.
The entire manufacturing process will be carried out at the PPB Majalengka, which is equipped with modern production technology and a quality control system designed to meet international infrastructure project standards.
The collaboration with Colas Rail, supported by JICA’s financing framework and technical standards, is seen as reflecting strong international recognition of the manufacturing capabilities, technological advantages, and production system reliability possessed by the WIKA Beton Group.
After the production process, the concrete railway sleepers will be distributed from the factory in Majalengka to Tanjung Priok Port, before being shipped by sea to Manila Port, Philippines.
Mass production and product delivery are planned to take place gradually until 2029, as part of ongoing support for the development of the Metro Manila Subway network.
“Through collaboration with Colas Rail supported by financing from JICA, we are proud to contribute to the construction of a modern urban transportation system while demonstrating that Indonesian manufacturing products and technology can meet world-class infrastructure project standards,” he stated.
Furthermore, Kuntjara assured that this project aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to expand its international market reach, while strengthening WIKA Beton’s commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
Through this collaboration, the WIKA Beton Group continues to strengthen its role in supporting cross-border infrastructure development that enhances regional connectivity and drives economic growth in the region.
This initiative is also part of the company’s strategy to create long-term value and strengthen WIKA Beton’s position within the Danantara ecosystem and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) at the global level.
