Wife killed by husband

JAKARTA (JP): Police shot dead a man yesterday after he stabbed his wife to death with a machete in North Jakarta.

Hatamang, 29, was killed by her husband Jumana, 35, Sunday afternoon when Jumana was off duty from his job as a ship crew member.

Hatamang's cries for help alerted the neighbors in Japat Kembang village No. 1, Ancol, and they called the police.

Officers from Pademangan police precinct found Jumana still hiding in the house.

Police said they shot Jumana after he became violent and attacked officers. The motive for the murder is still unknown. The couple were taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. (04)
