Wife in Bali Reported to Police by Husband for Giving Birth at a Different Hospital
A woman with the initials KC has been reported to the Denpasar Police by her own husband, RSL, on suspicion of concealing a person’s origins. RSL was reportedly aggrieved that his wife gave birth to their baby earlier than expected at a different hospital, not the one he had chosen. The report was subsequently processed by the police, and on Tuesday, KC and her mother attended the Denpasar Police station to comply with a summons for examination as the reported parties, accompanied by their legal counsel, Siti Sapurah. ‘We are providing assistance today, and for her mother, the examination is scheduled for Thursday. We are simply hoping that this report can be stopped,’ said Ipung, as Siti Sapurah is known, at the Denpasar Police headquarters. The case has been ongoing since RSL filed the report with the Denpasar Police in March 2026. KC gave birth to their baby on 14 February 2026 at Prima Medika Hospital. RSL, as the husband, had wanted the baby to be born on 22 February 2026 at BaliMed Hospital. Explaining the process, Ipung stated that KC experienced emergency contractions on the date of the birth, necessitating an immediate Caesarean section procedure on that day. The report, filed under Article 401 of the Criminal Code concerning the concealment of a person’s origins, was based on the fact that RSL’s name was not listed as the guarantor in the hospital’s administrative procedure; instead, the name of the reported person’s mother was listed. Ipung argued that the legal object allegedly concealed does not exist, as the child does not yet have a birth certificate issued by the Population and Civil Registration Office. This is because the marriage certificate between KC and RSL has reportedly been withheld since before the delivery. ‘The legal basis for Article 401 on the concealment of a person’s origins is the child’s birth certificate. This birth certificate does not exist. Whose identity was concealed?’ Ipung stated. Furthermore, according to KC’s account, she had not met her husband since January 2026 and had not lived with him since her pregnancy was only two months along. Meanwhile, the Denpasar Police confirmed the existence of the report. The Head of Public Relations for the Denpasar Police stated that several steps, including an investigation, have been taken to follow up on the report. ‘In this matter, investigators from the Denpasar Police have taken steps,’ he said. Since the report was filed on 10 March 2026, the police have examined witnesses and the reported parties. Six witnesses have been examined to date. The police also plan to examine expert witnesses to identify the evidence provided by the complainant.
