TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The meeting of the Working Committee on the Revision of Law No. 32/2002 on Broadcasting at the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Legislation Body was marked by a series of interruptions from lawmakers. At a meeting in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, committee members questioned why the meeting’s leadership had moved straight to discussing the provisions of the revised Broadcasting Law.

Abraham Sridjaja, a member of the Working Committee from the Golkar Party faction, was among those who lodged objections. He urged the meeting’s chair to first discuss other laws that could overlap with the Broadcasting Law. Abraham also suggested that the House postpone deliberations until a government representative was assigned to discuss the proposed legislation.

Abraham, who now serves on Commission I of the DPR, which oversees the communications and information technology sectors, was concerned that the committee’s discussions of individual provisions would have to be repeated once the draft revision reached Commission I. “The provisions would keep being taken apart and discussed back and forth, so the process will never be completed,” Abraham said in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Abraham’s proposal was rejected by the meeting’s leadership. Deliberations on the Broadcasting Law revision continued. Asked for comment on the meeting’s proceedings on Friday, October 2, 2026, Legislation Body Deputy Chair Ahmad Doli Kurnia responded only with a smiling emoji via WhatsApp.
