NasDem Party Deputy Chairman Saan Mustopa has revealed the reasons behind his party’s decision to reappoint Ahmad Sahroni as Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI).

Saan said Sahroni possesses the capability and experience in Commission III, noting that he had already served two terms in the committee responsible for legal affairs.

“Mr Sahroni indeed has experience in DPR Commission III. Having served two terms as a leader of Commission III, and now being reappointed as a leader of Commission III today, he certainly has the experience and adequate capability to lead Commission III of the DPR,” Saan said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday (19 February).

The DPR Deputy Speaker also stated that Sahroni had completed the six-month suspension handed down by the House Ethics Council (MKD) some time ago.

“The MKD has already made its ruling. So if he has been formally appointed by the DPR leadership to Commission III, it means that as far as the DPR is concerned, the matter relating to the MKD ruling has been concluded. It’s been served, that’s it,” Saan said.

Sahroni was confirmed as Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission III on Thursday (19 February), replacing Rusdi Masse who had resigned from NasDem.

Sahroni had originally held the position of Deputy Chairman of Commission III for the 2024–2029 term. In August last year, he was removed from the post following a series of viral statements regarding protesters at the DPR.

At the time, Sahroni said that calls to dissolve the DPR were misguided, going so far as to describe such views as the mentality of fools.

The decision to remove Sahroni was contained in NasDem Party Faction letter Number 758 regarding the replacement of members of Commissions I and III, dated 29 August 2025.

Under that letter, Sahroni was transferred to serve as a member of Commission I, whilst his vacated Deputy Chairman position at Commission III was filled by Rusdi Masse Mappasessu.

In November 2025, the House Ethics Council subsequently imposed a six-month suspension on Sahroni.

In January this year, Rusdi Masse resigned from NasDem and joined the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). Following this, the NasDem Faction once again appointed Sahroni as Deputy Chairman of Commission III.
