Iran, embroiled in a war with the United States (US) and Israel, has not yet received Russian assistance, particularly regarding weapons supplies. Russian authorities said, as reported by the Russian state news agency TASS and Reuters on Friday (6 March 2026), that Iran has so far not contacted Moscow to request any help, including weapons supplies. The Kremlin made the clarification when asked by reporters whether Russia planned to provide assistance to Iran, specifically by sending weapons, in addition to political support. ‘Regarding the current situation, there has been no request from Iran,’ said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov to reporters on Thursday (5 March). ‘Our position has been known to everyone. It remains unchanged,’ he said.

Conflict Intensifies

Tensions in the Middle East have intensified after the United States and Israel launched a large-scale joint attack on Iran since Saturday (28 February local time) and have continued to the present. In recent days, the allied forces of the two countries have attacked targets across Iran, including missiles, naval targets, and locations of military command and control. The barrage of strikes has killed several prominent figures and senior Tehran officials, including the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated with missile and drone attacks against targets in Israel and US bases in Gulf states. Russia, one of Iran’s closest allies, condemned the US-Israel strikes as an ‘armed aggression deliberately planned and without provocation.’ President Vladimir Putin has expressed condolences to Iran for what he described as the ‘sinister killings’ of the late Khamenei. However, to date, Putin has not publicly commented on the ongoing US-Israel strikes against Iran.
