Why Prabowo Attended the DPR Plenary: The APBN Is a Tool of Struggle

President Prabowo Subianto explained the reason for his direct attendance at the DPR plenary session, namely to deliver a speech on the macroeconomic framework and the main policies of the national fiscal policy, on Wednesday (20 May).

Prabowo said that the world today is in an unstable condition as a result of geopolitical conflicts and the war in the Middle East. That situation has left the world full of tensions and uncertainties.

‘Therefore, given the conditions we face, I am of the view that the President of the Republic of Indonesia should be present to directly convey the key ideas on the economy and the management of the state,’ Prabowo said.

Prabowo said that he has been sworn in as President to uphold the 1945 Constitution. Therefore he is responsible for protecting the whole nation and prospering the people.

In that role, Prabowo said, the APBN is not merely a document of state finance, but a tool of struggle.

‘In that context, I consider that the state budget is not merely a financial document; the APBN is a form of our tool of struggle as a nation,’ Prabowo said.

He described the APBN as a tool to protect the people and to fortify the foundations and pillars of the nation. The APBN is a tool to ensure all citizens live more prosperously.

‘With that awareness, we draft the APBN and form a common commitment to realise the noble aims enshrined in our Constitution,’ he said.
