Why Pertamina is Reducing Non-Subsidised Fuel Prices

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has announced an adjustment to non-subsidised Fuel Oil (BBM) prices, effective from 1 August 2026. Prices for Pertamax Turbo, Pertamax Green 95, and Pertamax (RON 92) have decreased.

Kitty Andhora, VP of Corporate Communication at Pertamina Patra Niaga, stated that these periodic changes are implemented in line with average global oil price trends and by considering the Rupiah exchange rate. The adjustment of non-subsidised fuel prices follows government regulations and directives while remaining mindful of public purchasing power.

“This step is also part of our efforts to ensure that the national fuel supply remains guaranteed for the community,” Kitty said in an official statement on Saturday, 1 August 2026.

Data from the Pertamina subsidiary, which focuses on the distribution and marketing of energy products, shows that three types of fuel have decreased in price while two others remain unchanged. The price of Pertamax Turbo has dropped by Rp 1,000, from an initial Rp 19,300 per litre to Rp 18,300 per litre.

Meanwhile, the price of Pertamax Green 95 has decreased by Rp 400, from Rp 17,000 per litre to Rp 16,600 per litre. The price of Pertamax (RON 92) has dropped by Rp 300, from Rp 16,250 to Rp 15,950 per litre.

In contrast, the price of Pertamina Dex remains at Rp 21,150 per litre, while Dexlite remains at Rp 19,700 per litre. According to Pertamina, these prices apply to regions with a Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax (PBBKB) of 5 per cent, such as DKI Jakarta.

Pertamina initially began raising prices for Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite, and Pertamina Dex on Saturday, 18 April 2026, followed by increases for Pertamax Green 95 and Pertamax (RON 92) in June 2026. These adjustments were a result of the surge in global oil prices amid tensions in the Middle East.

Since March 2026, global oil prices have experienced fluctuations and had previously sat above US$ 100 per barrel on several occasions. By the end of July 2026, global oil prices reached approximately US$ 88 per barrel.
