Why not resign gracefully?

Politics is merely a game and a fact of life. Even Abdurrahman
"Gus Dur" Wahid has become the president of the Republic of
Indonesia. Gus Dur himself once said: "Who would have thought
that a man who is unable to read can become a president". It is
not unusual for a blind man to by heart the Holy Koran and become
a cleric. But Gus Dur is the first blind man on this planet to
lead a nation. This is a great honor indeed bestowed on Gus Dur.

For that reason, Gus Dur must also be able to accept the fact
that with his physical limitations he is no longer able to lead
this nation. If he could accept this magnanimously, he would
certainly be greatly honored by both his foes and friends.

The people of this country can no longer bear or afford to see
Gus Dur stay in power.

Gus Dur should resign gracefully rather than be ousted by the
strike of the gavel in the special session of the People's
Consultative Assembly. He should become an advisor for our future
leaders. This will give him perpetual respect. It is hoped that
this respectable figure from Ciganjur will hear this appeal.
