Why not official contributions?
Why not official contributions?
From Media Indonesia
Exciting debates on Tapornas (national savings for sports
events) are going on. This indicates that dynamism of life
prevails in our society. It is our concern that we have not found
an acceptable solution to the problem of raising funds to finance
sports activities, even though we have been independent for
nearly 50 years.
It is much to be deplored that we often are very good at
coming up with concepts but are heavily challenged in our efforts
to implement a concept. Why? Mostly because there are gaps
between the concept and its implementation.
As far as a sports fund is concerned, our national sources are
great. Whenever there is a fund raising drive for certain
purposes, billions of rupiah can be collected in a matter of
minutes. The question is how to tap that national potential.
Based on this reality, a sports fund can be raised through the
same official mechanism. The community is only too willing to
contribute, providing it is sure that the funds collected are
properly and openly administered. Only through that conviction
will people be free of pessimism over the way the fund is
managed.
