Why Madinah Was More Prepared to Embrace Islam Than Makkah

The migration process of Prophet Muhammad SAW from Makkah to Madinah was not a decision made without consideration. Behind this historic event, there were a number of factors that made Madinah the most ideal place to develop Islamic da’wah.

One of the main reasons was the readiness of the people of Madinah to accept the teachings of Islam. In fact, they were the ones who first sought out and declared their allegiance to the Messenger of Allah SAW before he migrated to the city.

The migration of the Messenger of Allah SAW to Madinah was also not merely a change of location, but a strategic step in building Islamic civilisation. The city was chosen because its citizens were more prepared to accept da’wah, and they had even sought out the Messenger of Allah SAW to profess their faith earlier.

If the question arises as to why the city of Madinah was chosen as the destination for Prophet Muhammad SAW’s migration, the answer is that the primary factor was the readiness of the people of Madinah to accept Islamic da’wah.

There is an interesting aspect to the story of how the people of Madinah embraced Islam: it was they who sought out Prophet Muhammad SAW because they wanted to believe in the Prophet Muhammad SAW and Allah SWT.

The people of Madinah themselves looked for the Messenger of Allah SAW, unlike the people of Makkah whom the Messenger of Allah SAW had to approach when introducing Islam.

“In fact, the people of Madinah, during the Hajj season and many other occasions, tried to meet Prophet Muhammad SAW to embrace Islam,” wrote KH Ahmad Sarwat Lc in the book Madinah Era Kenabian published by Rumah Fiqih Publishing.
