Why Jakarta Can Only Renovate 11 of 22 Damaged Schools in 2026
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta can only revitalise 11 of the 22 damaged schools originally planned for repair in 2026. Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung stated that the adjustment was made after the regional government faced cuts to the Revenue Sharing Fund (DBH) and budget efficiency policies from the central government.
“Why is this happening? Because of DBH cuts, efficiency measures, and so on,” Pramono said during an inspection of SDN Kebayoran Baru Selatan 09 Pagi on Friday, 24 July 2026.
The central government previously slashed transfer funds to the regions and the DBH for DKI Jakarta Province by Rp15 trillion last January. As a result, the 2026 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) for DKI Jakarta was set at Rp81.32 trillion, lower than the initial projection of Rp95.35 trillion.
Pramono explained that when drafting the 2026 budget the previous year, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government was still planning the revitalisation of 22 schools. However, following the budget adjustment, only seven schools had allocated funds for repairs.
Nevertheless, the regional government subsequently added four other schools to the priority list. The decision was made after observing the condition of several school buildings deemed no longer fit for purpose, including SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi, which came under scrutiny after its building condition went viral on social media. “The condition is already very concerning,” Pramono remarked.
With this addition, a total of 11 schools will be handled in 2026. The four additional schools receiving priority are SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi with a budget of Rp48.1 billion, SMA Negeri 102 Jakarta at Rp67.5 billion, SD Negeri Cempaka Putih Barat 03 at Rp48.4 billion, and SD Negeri Papanggo 01 and TKN Papanggo 01 with a budget of Rp74.1 billion.
Pramono said schools not yet included in this year’s repair list will be addressed in 2027. The government, he said, continues to evaluate the condition of school buildings so that handling can be prioritised based on the level of urgency. “The remainder will certainly be addressed promptly in 2027,” he stated.
SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi is one of the schools that has drawn attention because its building has been damaged since 2024. Pramono confirmed that the rehabilitation process for this school will commence no later than September 2026. The Jakarta government will use a combination of Floor Area Ratio (KLB) funds and the Revised APBD to finance the school’s reconstruction.
