Why is the Jokowi Case Dragging On? This is What the Police Say
Metro Jaya Police have explained that the process of handling the report related to allegations of a fake diploma belonging to the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), which is deemed to be dragging on, is not without reason. Investigators emphasise that these steps are taken to maintain professionalism and ensure that every legal dynamic during the investigation is properly accommodated. Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Iman Imanuddin, stated that the current process is directed so that the investigation results have a strong scientific basis and can be held accountable. “Thus, the investigation process carried out by the investigators of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate at Metro Jaya Police can be accounted for scientifically,” said Dirreskrimum Metro Jaya Police Senior Commissioner Pol Iman Imanuddin during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (17/4). He also denied any obstacles in the investigation of the case that has been ongoing for about a year. “Up to today, we investigators have not found any obstacles in the investigation process,” he said. The same sentiment was expressed by the Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto. He emphasised that investigators continue to work without obstacles, but still respect the applicable legal principles in the public sphere, including equality before the law. “Everyone has the same status before the law. There is a request from the suspect’s side to present witnesses that lighten the case, there are expert witnesses,” he said. Budi explained that the opportunity for applying restorative justice is open, depending on the agreement of the involved parties. The state, he said, has provided space through legal provisions. “They are welcome to pursue that restorative justice mechanism. And it can be carried out either in the investigation process at the police, then in the prosecution process at the prosecutor’s office, or in the trial process at the court,” he stated. He added that law enforcement does not solely focus on imposing sanctions, but must also be able to bring about justice that calms and restores relations between the parties. “When peace has been achieved, sincere apologies have been conveyed, and the harmed party has given forgiveness, then the restorative justice approach becomes a legal path that should be prioritised. Polri is present as the guardian of life, builder of civilisation, and fighter for humanity,” he said.
