Why is the Furoda Hajj Scheme No Longer Available Starting This Year? Here's the Reason
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah (Wamenhaj), Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, has revealed the reasons behind the absence of the furoda Hajj scheme in the past two years. One of the main causes is the rampant misuse, particularly regarding prices deemed irrational. According to Dahnil, practices in the field show that furoda Hajj prices vary greatly and tend to be uncontrolled. “The furoda Hajj has a lot of irrational misuse, especially in terms of price. Some are sold for up to Rp1 billion, others Rp500 million. So it’s all over the place,” Dahnil said at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah office, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4/2026). He explained that this situation was one of the factors driving the suspension of the furoda Hajj scheme by Saudi authorities in the past two years. In fact, he said, it is possible that the scheme will be permanently abolished in the future. “So that’s what caused the furoda Hajj to no longer exist in the past two years. And in the future, it might indeed be gone for good,” Dahnil stated. This former Chairman of Muhammadiyah Youth emphasised that the Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, fully supports this policy. This is because the existence of the furoda Hajj is seen as opening the door to moral hazards and potential fraud against the public.
