Why Iran Has Once Again Rain Missiles Upon Israel
TEHRAN – Iran has fulfilled its promise to launch a retaliatory strike against Israel following the attack on Beirut by Zionist forces. In the early hours of Monday, Iranian missiles once again rained down upon Israeli territory.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran stated that it launched ballistic missiles at the Ramat David Airbase, located approximately 20 km from the city of Haifa in northern Israel. The airbase was identified as a “source of aggression” directed towards southern Lebanon and the southern outskirts of Beirut.
Mohsen Rezaee, a military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, commented on the missile launch. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly stated that it will not tolerate violations of the ceasefire and aggression against Lebanon. Tonight, the aggressors have received their response,” he wrote on X.
“This response serves as a warning to cease their crimes; any new actions will be met with a worse response and a higher price.”
Iranian news agencies cited a statement from the commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya military headquarters. The statement asserted that despite previous warnings from Iran, Israel breached “all red lines” by targeting the southern outskirts of Beirut and intensifying its attacks in southern Lebanon.
“We had previously warned that if the atrocities in the outskirts of Beirut spread, we would strike targets within the occupied territories,” the commander stated. He added that the Israeli army must cease its attacks on southern Lebanon and the suburban areas.
“If they expand their attacks on the region or respond to Iran’s actions, they will face a more devastating and regrettable blow, and destructive attacks will commence against the regime and its supporters.”
Prior to Iran’s retaliation, Israel conducted airstrikes in Beirut. They targeted a motorcycle on Zifta Street in the Nabatieh district, killing one person in southern Lebanon. Fighter jets also carried out two strikes that destroyed a house in the Ghamiqa neighbourhood of Duwair, while the city of Nabatieh was also targeted, according to the National News Agency.
Another motorcycle was struck by a drone on Wata-Abba Road between the towns of Abba and Duwair, killing two Syrian citizens and wounding others. An Israeli drone also conducted an airstrike in the town of Kfour.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that ongoing Israeli attacks on the country have killed at least 3,613 people and injured 11,072 others between 2 March and 7 June.
Israel attacked the southern outskirts of Beirut without warning on Sunday, just days after a ceasefire agreement in Washington came into effect, despite US requests to avoid attacking the Lebanese capital. Iran, an ally of Hezbollah, had warned that attacks on Beirut would renew full-scale war in the Middle East.
Iran had also vowed not to allow Israeli attacks on southern Beirut to go unpunished, with the IRGC threatening to level northern Israel if Beirut were targeted.
