Jakarta — The Professional and Security Division (Bid Propam) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has directly intervened in the case of a man who assaulted three petrol station workers in the Cipinang area, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, while claiming to be a law enforcement officer.

“We are still conducting a thorough investigation alongside the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police regarding the suspect in this assault,” said the Head of Internal Affairs at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Radjo Alriadi Harahap, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

He explained that the division’s involvement in the case, including visiting the scene, was primarily to ascertain whether the man — who had claimed the vehicle he was driving belonged to a general — was genuinely a member of the police force or merely impersonating one.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police confirmed that the investigation into the man, who claimed his vehicle belonged to a general, is now underway. Together with the East Jakarta Metro Police, the force is tracing the identity of the self-proclaimed officer.

“The East Jakarta Police and the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police are currently investigating the incident and the individual claiming to be an officer,” said the Head of Public Relations at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

The suspect, believed to be a rogue officer, had claimed his vehicle belonged to a general during an alleged assault on a fuel station operator while refuelling at a public petrol station in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta.

“He said, ‘Do you know this is a general’s barcode? Don’t you know this is a general’s barcode?’ He kept repeating that,” said Lukman Hakim (19), one of the petrol station workers who was assaulted, speaking in East Jakarta on Monday.

According to Lukman, suspicions that the man was a member of law enforcement arose from his own repeated references to senior police ranks and titles.

The remarks were made during a dispute over a barcode discrepancy for the purchase of Pertalite fuel.

Lukman said he was both shocked and frightened when the customer repeatedly invoked the identity of senior police officials.
