Why Iblis is humiliated and angry when Hajj pilgrims stand at Arafah
Imam Al Ghazali, in his work Ihya Ulumuddin, explained that Iblis experiences his most humiliated and frustrated state on the Day of Arafah when Hajj pilgrims perform the ritual of standing at Arafah. This is because Allah SWT showers abundant mercy and forgiveness upon them. The Quran states: ’ He said, ‘Because You have led me astray, I will surely lie in wait for them on Your straight path.’ (Surah Al-A’raf, verse 16) Some scholars interpret this as Iblis positioning himself along the routes to Makkah to hinder Muslims from performing Hajj. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: ‘Whoever performs Hajj to the House of Allah without committing obscenity or transgression will return free of sins, like the day they were born.’ ( narrated by Abu Hurairah)
