Why Have Thousands of Hanania Travel Prospective Pilgrims Not Yet Departed?
Internal financial issues are suspected to be the main reason Hanania Travel has not yet dispatched thousands of prospective umrah pilgrims, leading to a criminal report filed with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. Representative of the pilgrims, Joko (47), revealed that Hanania PT’s Managing Director, Ahmad Syah Farhan, admitted the company’s financial troubles began in 2025. “The company’s finances are what caused this chaos. By 2025, he was already facing internal financial issues. ‘My overheads were too high,’ he said,” Joko stated at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Thursday (28 May 2026) evening. As a result of this practice, funds from 2026 pilgrims are suspected to have been used to cover previous departure operations. “Yes, that means he’s digging one hole to fill another, sending off one group with money from new registrants, and it’s still ongoing,” Monica said. “The June and July departures have not yet been sent off as scheduled. We understand the disappointment, fatigue, and anger of our customers. But I am here to openly explain what we will do as part of our responsibility,” Farhan said. Farhan then proposed two resolution options to the prospective pilgrims. The first option is rescheduling departures over six months with additional cost adjustments. “The first option is for us to reschedule and dispatch gradually over the next six months with adjusted pricing,” he explained. He also cited external factors, including aircraft fuel prices, as reasons for increased costs.
