The arrival of the Jaecoo J5 in Indonesia is currently limited to the pure electric version, or battery electric vehicle (BEV). However, globally, this model is also available in a hybrid variant.

So, what is the reason Jaecoo has not yet introduced the J5 hybrid to the Indonesian market?

Head of Marketing for Jaecoo Indonesia, M. Ilham Pratama, stated that the launch of the J5 in Indonesia follows the global strategy, which currently prioritises the electric version.

“Globally, we have several other models of the J5 (including hybrid), and for that (hybrid model), we’ll see later,” said Ilham, when met in South Jakarta on Saturday (11/4/2026).

This means that although the hybrid option is already available, Jaecoo is still considering before truly bringing it to Indonesia.

“Chery Group is a very strong company. We have many product choices that we can select. But I think right now everything is facing issues regarding fuel prices. Not just in our country, but worldwide. So I think we’re focusing on BEV,” said Jim Ma.

NEV, or New Energy Vehicle, encompasses pure electric cars (BEV) to plug-in hybrids (PHEV). However, in the short term, Jaecoo views BEV as the main priority.

“As I mentioned in my presentation. So in the future, whether BEV or PHEV, they will be our target products in the Indonesian market. And if I mention it, BEV will be more important than the others,” he said.

The Jaecoo J5 SHS has indeed launched earlier in the global market. This car features a combination of a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, producing a total power of 165 kW or equivalent to 221 hp and torque of 295 Nm. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is claimed to be achievable in 7.9 seconds.

Its dimensions are relatively compact with a length of 4,380 mm, width of 1,860 mm, height of 1,650 mm, and wheelbase of 2,620 mm, sufficient to accommodate five passengers.

The features offered are comprehensive, starting from ADAS such as adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen, an 8-inch digital instrument panel, a 540-degree camera, six airbags, to ventilated seats and wireless charging.
