Why Did the KPK Switch Yaqut to House Arrest?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially transferred the detention of former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from prison to house arrest. This transfer was officially carried out on Thursday (19/3/2026). KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the transfer was made after a request from Yaqut’s family. Budi said that the request submitted by the family had been reviewed by the investigators. And the investigators permitted Yaqut to be released from the detention centre. “Because the authority for detention lies with the investigators,” Budi added. Budi emphasised that Yaqut’s status as a house detainee will not disrupt the legal process. He stressed that each case has its own handling strategy. “Every investigation process naturally has different conditions and case handling strategies, including the detention of a suspect,” said Budi. “We ensure that this transfer of detention type does not hinder the investigation process. We will promptly complete the investigation file so that it can be handed over to the prosecution stage,” he said.
