Why Are Airline Ticket Prices Different? Lion Group Provides Explanation

Varying airline ticket prices in a single search often confuse prospective passengers. Many question why the same route and date can display different prices, flight durations, and uneven flight options.

“Airline ticket prices are dynamic and influenced by several factors, including seat availability, booking time, travel period (including peak season), and the type of service selected,” explained Danang, a Lion Group representative.

This means that in the same search, price differences can occur because the combination of these factors differs for each available flight option.

Danang explained that direct flights will appear if a non-stop schedule is available with a shorter travel time. However, if seats are unavailable or there is no direct schedule, the automated system offers alternative connecting flights.

“Connecting flights occur when a direct flight is unavailable or seats are sold out. The system will automatically display alternative travel options with one or multiple connections, depending on availability,” Danang clarified.

Lion Group stated that the system allows such combinations to provide flexibility to customers.

“This combination allows customers to adjust their choice based on comfort, travel time, and budget (ticket price),” the representative said.

For example, a customer could book a flight from Jakarta to Surabaya in economy class, followed by Surabaya to Makassar in business class.
