Whoosh Train Comes to a Sudden Halt in Kopo as Flying Tin Sheet Enters Track
The high-speed Whoosh train, numbered KA G1046 on the Tegalluar Summarecon-Halim route, was temporarily halted due to a foreign object entering the track. The incident occurred at KM 126+383 in the Kopo area on Friday (3/4). Corporate Secretary of PT KCIC, Eva Chairunisa, explained that the stoppage was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the train’s journey. “We would like to clarify that KA G1046 on the Tegalluar Summarecon-Halim route was halted at KM 126+383 due to the handling of a foreign object, namely a tin sheet that entered the track because of extreme weather,” said Eva on Sunday (5/4). She noted that before the train was stopped, the sensor system had already detected the object’s presence, allowing potential hazards to be prevented early. The incident is believed to have been triggered by extreme weather conditions affecting the Bandung area and surroundings on the same day. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning caused several trees to fall and damage facilities on several road sections. Such conditions allowed lightweight materials like tin sheets to be carried by the wind into the high-speed rail track. Nevertheless, KCIC assured that there were no disruptions to other railway infrastructure, and all infrastructure remained in safe condition. KCIC also emphasised that the Whoosh line is equipped with multi-layered safety systems that continuously monitor operational conditions. These systems include sensors for detecting foreign objects, weather sensors for rain and strong winds, and earthquake detection systems integrated with the Operation Control Centre (OCC). Following the incident, personnel immediately conducted a thorough inspection of the track. The results declared all infrastructure in safe condition, and Whoosh train services resumed normal operations.
