Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) has reported a significant increase in Whoosh passenger volumes during the Lunar New Year long weekend running from 13 to 17 February 2026. At the peak of the period, daily Whoosh passenger numbers reached 24,000 to 25,000, representing an increase of up to 25 per cent compared with an average normal weekend.

Over just three days from 13 to 15 February, Whoosh carried more than 71,000 passengers, with the highest single-day volume reaching 25,700 on Saturday, 14 February.

“The Lunar New Year long weekend was used by the public to travel with family and relatives,” said KCIC General Manager of Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa in a statement on Monday (16 February).

Passenger movements since last weekend were also driven by public preparations ahead of the month of Ramadan, which falls close to the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Eva added that the availability of promotional ticket prices across various online booking channels also contributed to the rise in passenger volumes in recent days. On several booking platforms, discounts could reach hundreds of thousands of rupiah.

KCIC assured that all Whoosh operations during the long weekend ran safely and smoothly, with full readiness of facilities and infrastructure as well as optimised staffing at all stations. KCIC also deployed dozens of service personnel to ensure smooth passenger flow and maintain service quality. Meanwhile, traditional Lunar New Year decorations were installed across various service areas, from ticket counters and waiting areas to inside the train carriages, including the dining car.
