Whoosh passengers rise by 8% as West Java air cargo surges

The West Java Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded that the volume of Whoosh high-speed train passengers grew rapidly by 8.02 per cent month-on-month in July 2026, alongside a significant surge in West Java’s air cargo.

The Head of West Java BPS, Margaretha Ari Anggorowati, explained that during this period, Whoosh served 288,000 people, followed by a significant spike in international air cargo of 91.77 per cent, which reached 16.02 tonnes.

“The surge in international freight in July 2026 was strongly driven by the opening of new reference flights directly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,” Ari stated in Bandung on Tuesday.

Ari also noted that the resurgence in public mobility was evenly distributed across all modes of public transport in West Java throughout July 2026.

In domestic air transport, the number of passengers served reached 1,021, representing an increase of 5.84 per cent compared to June 2026.

Meanwhile, for conventional railway transport within the operational areas of Daop 2 Bandung and Daop 3 Cirebon, the total passenger volume reached 2.46 million people.

“This experienced a monthly increase of 1.01 per cent,” she said.

Ari added that the growth in passenger and freight transport indicates increasingly solid transport infrastructure connectivity in West Java, supporting efficient goods distribution and the mobility of the Bodebek megapolitan area.
