Whoosh Passenger Numbers Forecast to Rise 4 Per Cent During 2026 Eid Travel Period
PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) projects that the number of Whoosh high-speed train passengers during the 2026 Eid travel period will increase compared with the previous year.
KCIC has projected total passenger numbers to reach approximately 301,000 people, representing a rise of around 4 per cent from the 2025 Eid travel period, which recorded approximately 290,000 passengers.
Eva Chairunisa, General Manager of Corporate Secretary at KCIC, stated that the projection is based on ticket sales trends during the early period of the Eid travel season.
“The increase in passenger numbers demonstrates the growing interest among the public in using Whoosh as their transport choice during the Eid holiday period,” Eva said in an official statement on Sunday (16 March 2026).
The increase in passenger numbers is also evident from the potential surge in daily passenger traffic. During the 2025 Eid travel period, the peak daily passenger count was recorded at approximately 23,000 people. This year, daily passenger numbers are projected to approach 25,000 people per day.
KCIC projects that the peak passenger movement will occur during two main periods. The passenger surge is expected to become noticeable from 17 March 2026 and continue to increase as the Eid holiday approaches. The peak exodus is projected to occur on H-1 Eid (one day before Eid) or 20 March 2026.
“Meanwhile, a further surge in passenger numbers is also projected to occur on H+2 Eid on 22 March 2026,” Eva said.
The short journey duration of the service has led some members of the public to choose to perform the Eid prayer in their home city. After this, they continue their journey using Whoosh for tourism or family visits.
“During this period, daily passenger numbers are projected to approach 25,000 passengers per day,” she added.
