Jakarta — PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) is preparing the capacity of Whoosh high-speed train services to accommodate increased public mobility during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus. During the Eid transport period running from 13–30 March 2026, KCIC will operate dozens of train journeys daily with tens of thousands of seats available.

In its operational plans, KCIC will operate 62 Whoosh high-speed train journeys per day with a total capacity of 37,262 seats. Overall, the projection for the 18-day Eid transport period reaches approximately 301,000 passengers, averaging 25,000 passengers daily.

KCIC Company Secretary Eva Chairunisa stated that Whoosh passenger numbers during this year’s Eid exodus season are estimated to increase by approximately 4 per cent compared to the previous Eid period.

“So for the 2026 Eid transport period, we predict an increase of approximately 4 per cent compared to last year. Overall, we can see that Whoosh passenger volumes increase every year,” Eva said when met following an iftar gathering in Jakarta on Monday (16 March 2026).

She explained that passenger surges on Whoosh typically occur closer to Eid and continue after the holiday.

“The characteristic of Whoosh train passengers is that the passenger surge occurs at H-minus-1, then H-plus-1 of Eid, and so forth until the Eid transport holiday period ends,” she explained.

According to Eva, this pattern is influenced by the travel characteristics of Whoosh users, many of whom utilise the high-speed train for family visits in the Jakarta–Bandung region.

“Most people use Whoosh for family visits. The journey is only approximately 30 to 47 minutes, so many take advantage of it for visits, perhaps attending Eid prayers at home first before visiting family,” she stated.

In addition to family visits, passenger surges typically continue until the end of the Eid holiday period as many people use Whoosh for tourism.

“This is why passenger surges continue until the end of the Eid holiday — most people use it for tourism,” Eva said.

On pricing, KCIC continues to apply a dynamic pricing scheme with maximum ticket prices of approximately 350,000 Indonesian rupiah. For passengers planning to travel back and forth between Jakarta and Bandung during the extended holiday, KCIC also offers the Frequent Whooser Card (FWC) subscription programme.

“The Frequent Whooser Card is available for six journeys at approximately 1,725,000 Indonesian rupiah, which works out to roughly 225,000 per journey,” she said.

She added that this price applies even during peak season or extended holidays.

“So even if the price on that day is 350,000 rupiah, an FWC holder would still pay 225,000 rupiah as agreed when they purchased the card,” she noted.

Additionally, KCIC is partnering with several tourist destinations in Bandung that provide additional benefits to Whoosh ticket holders, such as free entry to tourist attractions.

“So don’t throw away your Whoosh ticket when visiting attractions — it can be used for free entry to tourist destinations that have partnered with KCIC,” she said.

To support operations during the Eid transport period, KCIC has deployed 352 operational crew members comprising 52 drivers, 52 mechanical technicians, 29 operation control officers, 46 conductors, 28 electrical technicians, 89 high-speed train officers, and 56 security and sanitation personnel.

For security purposes, 551 personnel from KCIC’s internal security, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are on standby. Additionally, 309 personnel are assigned to Eid transport command posts, consisting of KCIC central command staff, relevant ministries and agencies, and various company operational departments.

KCIC is also ensuring the readiness of facilities at stations and trains to enhance passenger comfort. Stations offer various amenities including free Wi-Fi, lifts and escalators, multimodal connectivity, nursing rooms, children’s play areas, prayer rooms, facilities for passengers with disabilities, food and beverage outlets, clinics, baggage storage lockers, and massage chairs.

On trains, passengers have access to charging ports, digital information screens, ergonomic seats, clean and accessible toilets, cabin baggage storage, and dining car services.

For security and travel safety, KCIC operates 1,775 CCTV units deployed across various points such as Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar stations, the depot, the high-speed rail track, and inside train carriages. Additionally, there are 38 environmental monitoring sensors comprising wind, rain, foreign object, and earthquake sensors.

KCIC has also mapped numerous potential hazards during the rainy season along the high-speed rail route, including six sedimentation points, eight flood-prone areas, and 22 landslide-risk locations. All these points are monitored 24 hours daily to ensure safe and smooth operation of the Whoosh high-speed train service during the Eid transport period.
