Whoosh Debt Restructuring Completed, Purbaya: Already Communicated to Chinese Government

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has assured that the news regarding the debt restructuring for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail project, alias Whoosh, will soon be announced by the government, as discussions have now been completed. He even acknowledged that he had conveyed this to China’s Finance Minister during a meeting some time ago. “(The Whoosh debt restructuring) is done, just waiting to be announced. I also told China’s Finance Minister that it has been decided, just waiting to be announced,” said Purbaya in the Sudirman area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, 22 April 2026. He acknowledged that the news of the completion of discussions on the Whoosh debt restructuring would soon be reported to the Chinese government to maintain the good bilateral relations that have been established so far with the Bamboo Curtain country. “Because this concerns the long-term relationship between Indonesia and China,” stated Purbaya. However, when asked for more details on the Whoosh debt restructuring, Purbaya admitted he could not yet provide further information. He only asked to wait for the official announcement from the government, which is planned to be delivered by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). Regarding whether the Indonesian government will also invite representatives from the Chinese government when announcing it officially, Purbaya said he did not know because it depends on the willingness of that government itself. “I have no right to talk about it now, let it be announced by Mr AHY. What is clear is that it has (been decided),” said Purbaya.
