Who Would Have Thought: Apple CEO Tim Cook Actually Owns a "Simple Home"
A major surprise has emerged from the technology giant in Cupertino. After nearly 15 years at the helm of one of the world’s most valuable companies, Tim Cook has officially announced his resignation from the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple. According to the New York Times, this leadership transition will take effect from 1 September 2026. The top position will be handed over to John Ternus, who currently serves as Senior Vice President (SVP) of Hardware Engineering at Apple. Subsequently, Tim will transition to a new role as Executive Chairman on Apple’s board of directors. Nevertheless, there is an interesting phenomenon regarding Tim. Amid the lavish lifestyles of technology billionaires, Tim chooses to live in a simple home in Palo Alto, United States. Based on a Business Insider report, Tim Cook purchased the home in 2010 for around $1.9 million, which equates to approximately Rp 32.5 billion at current exchange rates. The residence remains his primary home to this day and is located in Silicon Valley, known as the world’s technology industry hub. Although its value is quite high, the price is considered low compared to properties owned by other technology executives in the same region. The Wall Street Journal notes that home prices in Palo Alto can reach tens of millions of dollars, especially for luxury properties. Meanwhile, Tim is not known as a property collector and tends to have a simpler lifestyle compared to other technology billionaires. In terms of wealth, Forbes data shows that Tim Cook’s net worth reaches $2 billion, equivalent to Rp 32.5 trillion, most of which comes from shares and compensation as Apple’s leader. The comparison between his wealth value and his choice of residence makes Tim one of the technology figures with a relatively simple lifestyle. This phenomenon demonstrates that property ownership does not always reflect a person’s level of wealth, especially among global technology executives.
