WHO sponsors mental disorder survey in Bali
DENPASAR, Bali: The World Health Organization (WHO) is providing
financial assistance for a two-month survey in Bali to obtain
accurate data on the extent of the incidence of mental disorders
on the tourist island.
The survey, to be held in July and August, will involve 800
household respondents in Denpasar, the capital of Bali, and
Bangli regency, which is expected to represent the situation in
the province's other regencies.
"The incidence of mental disorders affecting the Balinese
ranges from one to three persons per thousand, arising from
various factors including social concerns," said Made Sugiarta
Yasa, head of the medical support unit of Bangli Mental Hospital,
on Monday.
Made Wardani of Denpasar's Bina Atma Mental Hospital disclosed
on Monday that mental patients in Bali also included foreign
tourists of different nationalities, such as Australians,
Norwegians, Dutch, French and Japanese citizens. --Antara
