Who Owns the Sari Pacific Hotel on Jalan Thamrin? It Belongs to a State-Owned Enterprise
The Sari Pacific Jakarta Hotel is one of the legendary hotels that has long been part of the capital’s hospitality landscape. Its location is highly strategic, situated in the MH Thamrin Street area in Central Jakarta, right in the heart of the Sudirman-Thamrin business corridor. The hotel was first established in the 1970s and became one of the starred hotels serving important guests from both domestic and international backgrounds. Over time, the Sari Pacific Hotel now operates under the international network of Marriott International and is part of the Autograph Collection Hotels network. Autograph Collection is a group of independent upscale to luxury hotels from the United States, part of Marriott International’s portfolio. The owner of the Sari Pacific Jakarta Hotel is PT Sariarthamas Hotel International (PT SHI). This company is a joint venture or partnership between two companies. Meanwhile, the remaining 50% is owned by PT Sarinah (Persero), a state-owned enterprise engaged in trading. In 2007, Parna Jaya and Sarinah were involved in a dispute over the ownership of the luxury hotel. The two companies sued each other in court. Quoting Kompas.com’s news archive from 4 May 2021, the dispute arose when Sarinah entered as a shareholder of PT SHI based on the Joint Venture Cooperation Agreement, which was then formalised in a Basic Agreement dated 30 September 1970. In 2007, Parna Jaya joined as a shareholder of PT SHI alongside Sarinah by acquiring shares previously held by PT Konsultasi Pembangunan Semesata, Tokyo Corporation, and Sojitz Corporation shares. Sarinah and Parna Jaya then entered into a Cooperation Agreement known as the Sarinah-Parna Agreement on 25 July 2007, which later became problematic. However, in 2021, the two companies agreed to settle. Based on the agreement, both parties agreed to each own 3,750 shares or equivalent to 50% and 50%. On 10 November 2022, the hotel officially joined the global Marriott International network and became part of the Autograph Collection. Since then, its official name has changed to Sari Pacific Jakarta Autograph Collection, with a concept that embraces a unique and exclusive identity in line with the spirit of “Exactly Like Nothing Else”.
