WHO luncheon on safe motherhood

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian office of the World Health Organization (WHO) is holding a business luncheon tomorrow with the theme Business Caring for Mothers.

The luncheon will feature three speakers:

Nyoman Kumara Rai, the director general of community health at the Ministry of Health, will speak on the luncheon's theme; Robert Kim-Farley, the WHO representative in Indonesia, will discuss safe motherhood and initiatives in the workplace; and Don Douglas, WHO country director for programs for appropriate technology in health, will present a study of a pilot project on health promotion in the work place.

Safe motherhood is the theme of this year's World Health Day, which was on April 7.

WHO Southeast Asia regional director Uton Muchtar Rafei emphasized in his message to mark the occasion this month the need to forge partnerships between various groups, including the business community, to meet the world's health challenges.

Also cosponsoring tomorrow's luncheon are the Jakarta Menteng Rotary Club and the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta hotel.
