Who is Sony Sonjaya? Former Deputy Head of BGN Named Corruption Suspect Alongside Dadan Hindayana

The alleged corruption case involving the former Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, continues to draw significant public attention. The latest development occurred after the Attorney General’s Office named Dadan as a suspect in a case involving the alleged trading of Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) points related to the national nutrition fulfilment programme.

The designation of suspects followed a series of investigations and searches conducted by investigators at the BGN office located in Central Jakarta. This case has raised numerous questions regarding several individuals who were previously part of the agency’s leadership circle.

Amidst the scrutiny of the case, the public has begun seeking information regarding Sony Sonjaya, the former Deputy Head of the BGN, who has also been implicated and named as a suspect. Sony Sonjaya’s name has appeared in several recent developments related to the ongoing investigation, prompting public curiosity regarding his background, career trajectory, and his tenure at the BGN.

Sony Sonjaya served as the Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) starting from 17 September 2025. He was a key figure during the initial phase of strengthening the agency, which is tasked with implementing various national nutrition programmes, including the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.

Following a restructuring of the BGN leadership conducted by the government on 2 June 2026, Sony Sonjaya was no longer part of the new leadership structure. The position of Deputy Head of the BGN was subsequently filled by Agustina Arumsari and Trenggono, under the leadership of the new Head of the BGN, Nanik S. Deyang.

Despite the conclusion of his term, Sony is noted to have made significant contributions to building the organisational foundation of the BGN since the agency began implementing strategic government programmes. Prior to being appointed Deputy Head of the BGN, Sony Sonjaya served as the Director of Provision and Distribution for Region II of the BGN. He also previously held the role of Verification Team Leader. Within the BGN, Sony held substantial responsibilities, particularly in ensuring that the distribution of the Free Nutritious Meal programme met its targets, coordinating various operational aspects to ensure food assistance and nutrition services reached communities across various regions.
