Who are the 'Magic Names' During Purbaya's Mutation Era? Suahasil and Bimo Speak Out

The mutation of officials within the Ministry of Finance during the era of Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has caused internal unrest. Recent reports suggest that many ‘magic names’ were involved in the recent appointments.

This was previously stated by the Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, at his office following the handover of Purbaya’s position to Suahasil Nazara. Specifically, Bimo requested that the mutations be cancelled.

When asked for comment, Suahasil Nazara declined to provide details, noting that the cancellation of the mutations is still under discussion. “Later. Once it is finalised,” Suahasil said following the ‘APBN Kita’ press conference at her office on Friday (18/09/2026).

Bimo, who was also present at the same event, refused to disclose the specific ‘magic names’ referred to. “Magic names? Magic, magic, magic,” Bimo remarked when questioned.

Previously, hundreds of tax officials, ranging from echelon two to echelon four, were rotated by Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa during his tenure as Finance Minister on Thursday (10/09/2026).

However, according to Bimo, the list of inaugurated officials, particularly within the Directorate General of Taxes, will be re-evaluated regarding their capability and suitability. If they do not meet the requirements, the appointments will be revoked.

Bimo stated that Purbaya’s decision to conduct large-scale mutations has caused internal commotion, partly due to the presence of these ‘magic names’.

Bimo, alongside the Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budi Utama, subsequently proposed to the new Finance Minister, Suahasil Nazara, that the mass rotation be cancelled. “That was our proposal; the rotation, but indeed there are some ‘magic names’ that did not undergo the assessment and talent management process. That is why the Director General of Customs and I requested that it be postponed or cancelled,” he explained to the media on Friday (18/09/2026).

“Because the signal is not good for the rest of the troops who have worked hard, participated in assessments, exams, and talent management,” he added.

Currently, Bimo admitted that he is in discussions with Finance Minister Suahasil regarding the fate of the employees who have already been inaugurated. “Regarding the inauguration of employees last week, it was a regular rotation. This is currently being discussed in our meetings,” he added.
