Whittall guides Zimbabwe to 8-wicket win

HARARE (Agencies): Guy Whittall scored a valuable 60 to guide
Zimbabwe to an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second
test on Monday.

The match was all over an hour after lunch on the final day
when Zimbabwe reached 100 for two with Stuart Carlisle on 29 not
out and Alistair Campbell on nought.

Opener Whittall and Carlisle shared 57 for the second wicket
to set up the 2-0 series whitewash.

Bangladesh, resuming at 219-5, had been dismissed in their
second innings for 266 after 15 overs of the morning session.

The last four wickets went for two runs in the space of four
overs with fast bowler Brighton Watambwa showed plenty of pace
and aggression in taking four for 64.

Top-scorer Habibul Bashar went in the sixth over of the
morning when he edged an away-swinger from Heath Streak to be
caught behind by wicketkeeper Andy Flower.

Bashar's 76, his second half-century of the match, was the
product of three-and-a-half hours at the crease in which he faced
132 balls and hit nine fours.

Six overs later Naimur Rahman was run out for 36 by substitute
fielder Gavin Rennie, who sprinted from forward short leg to mid-
on before throwing to the bowler's end to complete the dismissal.

Two balls after that Enamul Hoque succumbed for three to a
regulation caught behind catch off Watambwa, followed three overs
later by Mohammad Sharif being well held by Carlisle at second
slip off Streak for a duck.

Five balls later, Manjural Islam was caught behind off
Watambwa without scoring to end the innings.

Zimbabwe had reached lunch on 33 without loss although two
balls into the second session Dion Ebrahim was run out for 10 by
Javed Omar's throw from third man.

Five balls before the winning runs were struck, Whittall was
bowled around his legs by left-arm spinner Hoque.

Zimbabwe won the first test by an innings and 32 runs.

In a separate development, it was reported from Melbourne,
Australia that India has yet to confirm it will play a one-day
series indoors here in August, the Australian Cricket Board said
Monday.

"A number of things need to be sorted out ... we're still
waiting to confirm the opposition," a board spokesman said.

India has a tight overseas schedule for the rest of the year.

A Super Challenge series last August against South Africa at
the Colonial Stadium made history as the first official
international cricket matches played indoors.

The three-game series ended in a one-all draw, after the
second match finished in a tie.
