White hydrogen potential, duck feather exports among economic highlights
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is targeting potential sources of naturally occurring hydrogen, known as white hydrogen, in Sulawesi. The move responds to remarks by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology regarding Indonesia’s significant natural hydrogen potential.
The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has destroyed 312 tonnes of meat and bone meal (MBM) from Brazil worth Rp2.4 billion, after laboratory tests confirmed the animal feed material contained porcine elements despite documentation and packaging stating it was free from pig derivatives. Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding stated in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (22/7) that the agency deliberately witnessed the destruction to prevent the MBM from circulating.
The Ministry of Agriculture is partnering with the Danantara Investment Management Agency to build an integrated coconut downstream industry in several regions. The initiative aims to strengthen the commodity’s value addition and increase domestic raw material absorption. Agus Rosyadi, Quality Supervisor for Agricultural Products at the Directorate General of Plantations, said Danantara is currently surveying potential locations for the integrated coconut processing industrial zones.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi announced the central government’s decision to reactivate Bandung’s Husein Sastranegara Airport sooner than planned, in August 2026, to serve domestic and regional international routes. The strategic decision, agreed upon with the regional government, will see the airport managed again by state-owned enterprise PT Angkasa Pura (In Journey) in response to increasingly urgent public mobility needs and air connectivity in West Java.
The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) facilitated the export of 916.2 tonnes of duck feathers from East Java, valued at Rp60.24 billion, between January and June 2026. Acting Head of East Java Quarantine, Hudiyansyah Is Nursal, noted that East Java possesses a complete duck feather industry ecosystem, from breeders and collectors to export-oriented processing industries.
