White House: Iran Faces Severe Economic Pressure
Washington (ANTARA) - Iran is currently facing the most severe economic pressure that a country can experience, said White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett. “Iran is facing economic pressure that is nearly at the maximum limit that a country can endure,” Hassett said in an interview with CNBC on Monday (11/5). He added that Iranian negotiators want to reach an agreement with the United States as soon as possible because the country’s economy is said to be approaching collapse. Last week, US President Donald Trump said he hopes Iran’s financial system will collapse because he believes it would be a victory for the US. Previously, on 16 April, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the Treasury Department launched the “Economic Fury” operation against Iran to maximise economic pressure on the country. US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent also said the government will continue to implement the maximum economic pressure policy against Iran.
