White Box Truck Hit-and-Run Perpetrator on Yos Sudarso Street Breached Kebon Bawang Toll Gate
Jakarta – The head of the traffic accident division at North Jakarta Metro Police (Polres Metro Jakarta Utara), AKP Edy Wibowo, has revealed that the white box truck driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run on Jalan Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta, on Saturday 14 February 2026, briefly entered Kebon Bawang toll road before disappearing from witness observation.
He stated that the vehicle was travelling at high speed, making its registration number unreadable on CCTV cameras.
“Investigations have been conducted and the vehicle type is a box truck, but the registration number was not captured due to the high speed,” he said when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday 2 March 2026.
“There were two witnesses who pursued the vehicle, but neither knew or recorded the vehicle’s registration number,” Wibowo explained.
According to him, the box truck continued at speed until it entered Kebon Bawang toll road. The vehicle even struck the toll booth barrier before accelerating away again.
“It entered Kebon Bawang toll road, hit the toll barrier and was chased inside the toll road, then the driver accelerated hard again,” he said.
He noted that as of now, the vehicle’s whereabouts remain unknown.
“Not yet,” he replied when asked whether the truck had been identified.
Police have urged the public who possess information or recordings related to the incident to report it immediately to assist the investigation process.
The hit-and-run incident occurred on Jalan Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta, in the early hours of Saturday 14 February 2026. The incident killed two men with initials RW and JHP who were riding a motorcycle together.
“Upon reaching the front of the Kejari building project, they were struck by an unknown vehicle travelling in the same direction from behind,” Wibowo explained when confirmed by Kompas.com on Monday 16 February 2026.
After striking the motorcycle, the vehicle’s driver did not stop to render assistance and immediately left the scene.
“As a result of the accident, the rider (RW) and passenger (JHP) suffered injuries and died at the scene of the incident,” said Wibowo.
