Whistle-blower's detention extended

JAKARTA: The South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office has extend the detention of prosecutor Kito Irkhamni, who gave evidence against Attorney General M.A. Rachman, for another 30-days over his alleged involvement in a fraudulent case.

The prosecutor's office chief, Purwanto, said on Wednesday that the dossiers of the case would be submitted soon to the South Jakarta District Court.

Kito put Rachman in hot water after he told the Public Servants' Wealth Audit Commission (KPKPN) that Rachman had concealed his wealth, which included a luxury house worth billions of rupiah.

The allegation prompted calls for Rachman to quit his post, but President Megawati Soekarnoputri has maintained him on the grounds that his dismissal would not eliminate endemic corruption.

While Rachman has remained free, Kito was put in jail. --JP
