Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has spoken about the importance of artificial intelligence (AI), stating it can help students accelerate their learning process. In a video posted to his personal Instagram account on Tuesday (16/6/2026), Gibran said AI is no longer the future but the present. “We can no longer close our eyes or just be spectators. We must be players, we must be masters of this technology. Therefore, to students, I want you to understand that AI is a tool to accelerate, not a tool to make you lazy,” Gibran stated. He explained that AI can act as a personal assistant to aid the learning process, search for data, learn foreign languages faster, and even understand complex mathematical formulas in a simpler way. AI, he clarified, can help students catch up. “However, mastering this technology must not cause us to lose our critical thinking. Use AI to spark creativity, not to replace your own thinking abilities,” he said. Gibran added that many advanced AI technologies are now open source, calling this a golden opportunity for talented Indonesians. “In the hands of those who master technology, Golden Indonesia 2045 is no longer just a dream, but a certainty,” he remarked. He also addressed the concerns of teachers and parents, expressing hope that teachers will never give up on improving their own skills. “Teachers who master AI will have a superpower to educate more effectively. AI can assist with administrative tasks, such as creating questions, presenting simpler explanations that students enjoy, and providing case studies that help students absorb the material better,” he said. “This way, teachers will have more time to focus on the humanistic side and the character development of their students. Parents are the same; we must accompany our children. We cannot let our children soar high with technology while we, as parents, are left behind and unaware of what they are accessing. Let us learn together,” he continued. Gibran stressed that something far more important than the technical mastery of AI is ethics. He warned that technology without ethics is dangerous, as AI can be used to create positive content but also to spread hoaxes, commit plagiarism, or violate others’ privacy. “I want to remind everyone that the use of AI must be based on values of integrity. Do not use AI to deceive, do not use AI to bring others down. AI must be used for the common good, to make life easier, not to create social chaos. Technological progress must go hand in hand with our moral progress as a civilised nation,” he added. Gibran noted that the Indonesian government has successfully completed the AI Readiness Assessment Methodology developed by UNESCO, which serves as a diagnostic tool to evaluate Indonesia’s future AI readiness and governance. He said Indonesia has great talent, and the government’s task is to prepare the ecosystem. “And the task for all of us is to prepare our own individual capacities. Master the technology. Hold firmly to ethics. Let us make AI a bridge towards a more advanced, smarter, and more dignified Indonesia. Happy learning, happy innovating,” he concluded.
