Where is our compassion?
Where is our compassion?
Stop the conflict, the silly debates, trading of accusations
and thinking only of winning the 2004 general election.
This is addressed to everyone -- particularly the political
elite, religious figures, NGO activists and the wealthy.
The floods have paralyzed many parts of the capital, caused
hardship to thousands of city dwellers, increased the death toll
and displaced thousands but we have not seen any help from the
government to alleviate the burden suffered by flood victims.
Women, children and senior citizens shelter in mosques and
office buildings and lack clean water and food.
But everyone must take responsibility for the plight of these
people, not only the government or aid foundations like the Red
Cross or search-and-rescue teams.
The time has come for political party leaders and legislators
to prove they represent the people and defend their interests.
Religious figures should prove that religion is God's mercy --
not only in the form of solidarity towards the fate of Moslems in
Afghanistan and Palestine but also for those in misery in this
country.
