Where have all the Golkar flags gone?
JAKARTA: Banners, flags and posters of political parties campaigning for the elections are seen in every corner of the city, but not many belong to Golkar.
Is it because Golkar lacks funds to produce the attributes? Apparently not. A story told by Wagimin, a construction worker who lives in Ciledug district, South Jakarta, might shed light on the mystery.
He said yesterday he turned down an offer to install 15 Golkar flags in his area because he was afraid of being hurt by supporters of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan).
"I was offered Rp 70,000 to install 15 Golkar flags, but I turned it down. I was afraid I would be attacked," Wagimin told The Jakarta Post.
The flags were to be placed in strategic places where some PDI Perjuangan flags also fly.
He would not say which party he would vote for, but said that many people in his area supported PDI Perjuangan. (sim)
